The road between Sussundenga district headquarters and the village of Dombe in Manica has been cut since Tuesday morning by the rising waters of the Chincono River in Darue, following rain in Manica.
Sussundenga administrator Rosa Bias Luís visited the site yesterday morning and said that a low-lying stretch of National Road 260 was underwater for a stretch of about 100 metres.
The stretch of road often floods during the rainy season, preventing the circulation of vehicles and people.
Bias said that the only way to reach the villages of Dombe and Mossurize was via Inchope, through Chitausse village in Chibabava, Sofala province.
If the situation continued for much longer, Dombe and Mossurize may experience shortage, Bias said, since this was the main road to Chimoio, the capital of Manica province, where local merchants buy their stocks. She also warned that the situation could indeed worsen following further heavy rain in the region.
