More than 700 flood victims in Gorongosa district, Sofala province, were moved to safe areas over the weekend, Radio Mozambique has reported.
These are families residing in the administrative post of Vunduzi, besieged following heavy rains in the region.
District administrator Manuel Jamaca said on Sunday that rain had affected just over 4,400 families – more than 20,000 people – and that five accommodation centres had been set up to accommodate those displaced.
Jamaca called on families to leave unsafe areas in order to avoid any loss of life.
