The National Institute of Disaster Management positioned six mobile bridges in the city of Mocuba in Zambézia province this Monday to help ease the movement of people and goods if road infrastructure is damaged in the current rainy season.
The installation was carried out this Monday by INGC’s regional center director, Belém Monteiro, after a meeting of the Emergency Operations Centre (CENOE) in the region.
INGC is also stockpiling 120 tents, an equal number of tons of cereals and various food products to support families who may be affected by rainfall and flooding in the Licungo river basin and in Nicoadala and Morrumbala.
INGC regional director Monteiro reiterated his appeal to people living in risk areas especially the banks of the Licungo River in Mocuba, to leave,
He explained that Mocuba was the focus of attention at the moment because the population were resisting calls to leave at-risk areas.
Beatriz Gulamo, president of Mocuba municipality, said that the municipality had 1,500 families at risk from flooding, the majority of whom were allocated housing in resettlement areas in 2015.
Gulamo said measures would be taken to move them to safe locations because of the risks they are facing from the probable bad weather.
