A plane carrying 81 people, including members of a Brazilian football team, has crashed in Colombia.
Local airport officials say the flight was carrying players from the Chapecoense football club, which was due to play in Medellin tomorrow.
Citing national police, Colombia’s José María Córdova International Airport said there appeared to be at least six survivors from the 72 passengers and nine crew on board.
British football journalist Carl Worswick, who is based in Bogota, said firefighters believed there were “lots of survivors”.
Preliminary images purportedly from the scene of the crash showed the mangled wreckage of a plane on a darkened muddy hillside.
The flight was also carrying Brazilian football journalists, local broadcaster RCN Radio reports.
The chartered flight was en route to the Colombian city of Medellin from Bolivia.
Colombian news agency Mi Oriente reports the plane had reported electrical difficulties before the crash.
Chapecoense had posted a live stream to its official Facebook of its players checking in to their flight.
The team was set to play in the final of the Copa Sudamericana against Colombian team Atletico Nacional. The match has now been suspended following the crash.
Poor weather conditions made the crash site accessible only by road, airport officials said.
Chapecoense, from the southern town of Chapeco, plays in Brazil’s top club division.
