The Spanish Embassy in Mozambique is closing its 2015 cultural programme with a jazz flamenco concert by Jorge Pardo artist next Wednesday 16 December at 7.00pm in the Theatre Avenida. Entry is free.
Flautist and saxophonist Jorge Pardo is one of Spain’s best-known jazz musicians and has brought to Maputo with him his jazz-flamenco fusion trio Huellas, with flamenco guitar and percussion.
Pardo is best known for helping forge, along with Paco de Lucia and Camaron de la Isla, a musical language melding jazz and flamenco. Along the way, he has played with musicians such as Chick Corea, Tete Montoliu, Marcus Miller, Peter Iturtalde, Lou Bennett, Al di Meola and Pat Metheny.
In 2003, he won the Best Musician in European Jazz prize, the only Spanish musician to receive the award to date, and in October of the same year was granted the National Award of Contemporary Music in his native Spain.
