Mozambique: Human trafficking ring dismantled, six victims rescued in Maputo
Jornal Notícias
Seven vehicles were damaged in a major fire yesterday afternoon at the Investment Promotion Centre car park (CPI) in central Maputo.
Gabriel Mussane, security guard at the car park near Correios de Moçambique (Post Office), said that the fire started in the neighbouring plot where the guard was burning garbage. The accumulation of garbage and dry leaves and high temperatures led to the fire spreading to the parked cars.
Prompt intervention by the fire brigade prevented the worst, and many cars in the parking lot escaped damage. Head firefighter Moises Madime confirmed the losses, adding that the cars were luckily unoccupied at the time.
This incident aside, Maputo appeared calm, though soaring temperatures drew city dwellers to the beach to freshen up in the sea.
The police logged a traffic accident resulting in serious injuries to a pedestrian in Inhagoia on Saturday night. Speeding and poor road sense are cited as the causes of the accident.
