KaTembe municipal district in Maputo saw great activity yesterday morning when a fire broke out in the Chinese Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) production camp on Saturday.
It is presumed that the fire was caused by a group of young people using welding equipment on site. The youths tried to quell the fire using extinguishers, but without success.
The fire consumed some equipment and was brought under control by fire fighters around 1:00 p.m., a source at the corporation explained.
“At about 9:00 a.m., the National Public Salvation Service in the city of Maputo received information about the fire and deployed a team to the site. In addition to what information we already have, a team will investigate the causes of the fire,” the source said.
The CRBC has been the contractor for some of the country’s most iconic post-independence construction projects, including the Maputo Ring Road and the Maputo-Catembe bridge.
The CRBC is also involved in the repair of the Save River bridge, in Govuro district, Inhambane province.
