Mozambique’s President Filipe Nyusi said yesterday in Maputo that Cape Verde was a shining example of good governance and democracy, and that the two countries could benefit from an exchange of experiences in these areas.
“Good governance and the quality of Cape Verdean democracy are examples that we must capitalize on,” Filipe Nyusi said after meeting his counterpart, Jorge Carlos Fonseca.
“It is a calm country,” in contrast to the political and military instability apparent in other African countries, the Mozambican head of state insisted.
The fact that Mozambique and Cape Verde share a common language and history, and both belong to the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), only boosts opportunities for bilateral cooperation, President Nyusi added.
During the meeting of the two heads of state, it was decided that Jorge Carlos Fonseca would conduct a state visit to Mozambique this year, to help clarify areas of economic cooperation, with agriculture, tourism, transport and renewable energy potential sectors.
Jorge Carlos Fonseca participated in the inauguration ceremony of Filipe Nyusi for his second and last term as President of the Republic.
