Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi today dismissed Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosario, five ministers, two provincial governors and one presidential counsellor, a statement from the Presidency of the Republic announces.
In addition to Carlos Agostinho do Rosario, Filipe Nyusi dismissed the Interior Minister, Basilio Monteiro; Minister of Education and Human Development, Conceita Sortane; Minister of Youth and Sports, Nyeleti Mondlane; Minister of State Administration and Civil Service, Carmelita Namashulua, and Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security, Vitória Diogo.
The Mozambican president also exonerated the governor of Niassa province (centre), Francisca Tomás, the governor of Maputo province (south), Raimundo Diomba, and his counsellor, Catarina Dimande.
With the exception of Francisca Tomás, who was elected governor of the central province of Manica as head of the ruling Frelimo Liberation Front of Mozambique in the October 15 general elections, the prime minister and five ministers, the governor of Maputo and the exonerated presidential counsellor were all elected as members of the Assembly of the Republic in the October elections and are due to take office on the 13th of this month.
The statement of the Presidency of the Republic does not explicitly mention the reasons for the dismissal, but the Constitution of the Republic of Mozambique and the Statute of Deputies lay out that parliamentary function is incompatible with the exercise of public office.
The dismissals come six days before Filipe Nyusi is scheduled to take office for a second term as President of the Republic, following his victory in the presidential elections of 15 October last year.
The exonerations of executive members announced today will be followed by the dissolution of the entire Filipe Nyusi executive, prior to the formation of a new government after the investiture of the head of state.
