Over six days, more than 80 participants from Guinea and Mauritius – coaches and players – were mentored by FIBA and NBA experts concerning different aspects of the game – psychology, technique, and tactics.
In Mauritius, the FIBA National Youth Camp has left a positive mark on the participants.
“We’re now better armed to face new challenges,” said the coaches, who are now tasked with seeking new talents.
The Mauritius Basketball Federation (MBBF) also expressed the wish to have more camps like the one held last week as it looks forward to reactivating its national squad. “We have had some discussions with Scott Fleming, and we would like to have him here for other training camps,” said Hedley Han Mui, chairman of the MBBF.
The players also relished the days spent under Fleming’s supervision. Everyone now looks forward to the next steps. “It was a great moment for us and for the local basketball community at large. We are now waiting impatiently to put what we learned into practice.”
Meanwhile, in Guinea, young players and coaches also underwent a training camp under the FIBA’s aegis.
Both federations are now waiting for the names of the players that have been selected to go to the Regional Youth Camp later this year.
The 2022 National Youth Camp edition is now underway in Mozambique (15-20 February), while Uganda is set to welcome the FIBA and NBA representatives next week (21-26 February). Algeria (22-27 February) and Chad (1-6 March) are the next stops on the list.
DR Congo (1-6 March) and Madagascar (7-12 March) have yet to confirm whether they will hold their respective National Youth Camps.
