A goal from the small (big) player Dayo won Ferroviário da Beira a 1-0 victory over Sudan’s El-Merreikh in an African Champions League Group A match on Saturday.
The Ferroviário da Beira goal came in the 68th minute, securing the Beira team first victory in the competition and keeping alive its hopes of qualifying for the next phase.
The fourth round is scheduled for June 20, when Ferroviário will meet Saturday’s opponents of El-Merreikh in Khartoum, a challenge that will certainly not be easy for the Mozambican champions although the Sudanese team is already out of the race for the next phase.
Ferroviário da Beira’s victory nets them 4 points places them second, with El-Merreikh bringing up the tail with only one point.
Personalities attending the game included Sofala governor Maria Helena Taipo, president of the Mozambican Football Federation, Alberto Simango Jr, and president of the National Football League, Ananias Quoane.
