A man has been in detention since Monday at the Boane District Command in Maputo province, charged with poisoning his 8-year-old son.
Emídio Mabunda, a police spokesman, said that the individual was found in possession of a chemical substance suspected to have been used to intoxicate the child. The deceased is in the Central Hospital of Maputo (HCM) morgue pending the results of the autopsy confirming the poisoning.
The reason the detainee ended the life of his own child are as yet unknown. The alleged murderer is also suspected of being one of the gang of three that robbed a Chinese construction company based in Matola, making off with various assets and a large amount of money.
