Two people died on Tuesday night in a head-on collision at the intersection of National Road Number Four (EN4) and the Maputo Ring Road in Tchumene, Matola municipality.
The collision involved a heavy-duty truck belonging to a South African company travelling from Moamba towards Matola route and a Toyota double cab travelling in the opposite direction.
The bodies of the victims were taken to Maputo Provincial Hospital.
Noticias learned from witnesses that the accident happened when one of the front tires of the Toyota came off, causing a loss of steering and the vehicle to collide violently with the truck.
The truck driver, who was unharmed, fled the scene after the accident, but in the early hours of yesterday a representative of the company which owns the vehicle was at the site to find out what happened and secure the vehicle.
