Two vehicles were damaged on Friday morning when a tree fell on them on Filipe Samuel Magaia Avenue in Maputo.
The two Toyota-brand vehicles, one of them black, registration ACC 423-MP, and the other grey, registration ABM 904 MC, were parked on the avenue when the tree fell.
Witnesses said they thought vibrations from an excavator involved in the rehabilitation of the pavement might have precipitated the fall. The rehabilitation is being carried out by the Maputo Municipal Council.
The tree in question was already dead and thought to be rotten. Street vendors continued to operate in the vicinity, even at the risk of being hit. Capulana seller Palilo Machava said the trunk narrowly missed him as it fell.
The Maputo municipal director for infrastructure said when approached on the subject that he was not aware of the incident.
