The bad weather that hit the city of Beira in recent days has left three families in mourning. The rains brought down electricity poles in the Munhava neighbourhood.
It all started last Thursday, when Electricidade de Moçambique went to sever a cable carrying stolen electricity into some homes.
The first victims were two children, the second of which tried to rescue the first and was also electrocuted. The two victims were taken to Beira Central Hospital, but one of them, aged three years old, failed to recover and died.
Also in Beira, two women were electrocuted when lightening struck an overhead electricity cable which fell on a scaffold that the two were leaning against.
The two EDM installations have since been repaired by the company.
