On the morning of Monday 7 August, a FADM sergeant was shot and physically assaulted with a machete in his home, located in the Intaka neighbourhood, Matola. The victim’s family was also subjected to physical assault by the unidentified assailants.
The sergeant was immediately rushed to hospital, but died en-route.
According to the police, at dawn on Monday, four masked men broke into the victim’s home where they began physically assaulting two male occupants. The assailants subsequently ransacked the house and physically assaulted the remaining occupants while demanding goods and money. It was at this point that the sergeant awoke and went to investigate the noise. As he entered the room, he was struck on the head with a machete and beaten. The assailants demanded that the man hand over his service weapon.
Before fleeing the scene, the attackers stole various goods and an unspecified amount of money.
The PRM have said that they are aware of the case and are investigating the matter.
