The Certificate of Origin (CO) for national products will now be issued electronically by the Chamber of Commerce of Mozambique (CCM), a measure that aims to simplify and harmonise with international trends.
The information was released in Maputo by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Silvino Moreno, during the first session of the International Trade Facilitation Committee a few days ago.
Innovation regarding the documents certifying that goods declared by an exporter comply with the specific rules of origin, respecting the criteria set out in trade protocols, will provide greater dynamism and flexibility.
The new certification model came into use in the second half of last year, and, according to the minister, after this period, operators have shown themselves to be satisfied.
“That is why we approved its effective implementation. And it is a safer instrument than issuing manually, which has been in use since it was established,” he explained.
Minister Moreno added that the digital format also provided a better way to compile statistics on exports and had proved a useful source of information for defining policies in the area of foreign trade.
“The Chamber of Commerce has therefore been authorised by this committee to issue electronic certificates and also provide a world-class service,” Moreno said.
The committee also recognized improvements in the new phytosanitary certificate for agriculture, applicable to both plants and animals, modernised to provide greater security for the export of agricultural and agrarian products.
In this context, Vasco Manhiça, representing the Confederation of Economic Associations (CTA), said that the committee was producing results and keeping up with global trends, especially with regard to digitization.
