The European Union delegation in Mozambique and the Office of the National Authorizing Officer of Mozambique officially launch the Short Film Competition today.
The event, to be held at the organization’s headquarters in Maputo, also celebrates the 25th anniversary of the PALOP-TL group, a regional cooperation program with the European Union which includes Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Sao Tome and Principe and Timor-Leste
The competition aims to select unpublished short-movie projects between 13 and 26 minutes long, which offer a view of the relationship between the socio-political-cultural realities of the PALOP-TL countries and contribute to the strengthening of a common identity.
The selection process will identify one participant from each country, a total of six filmmakers and six projects, and works emerging from the competition will have non-commercial broadcasting on partner television and national and international film festivals.
The competition, open until 26 March, aims to strengthen knowledge about the diversity and similarities between the various national cultures in the context of a common official history and language. It provides opportunities for training with artistic residencies promoting young artists and their narratives, bolsters the production and dissemination of short films and promotes gender equality.
The competition will select unpublished short films by young filmmakers from the six member countries, who will then participate in a 10-day artistic residence in Maputo during which the projects and production planning will be developed.
