The European Union (EU) has reaffirmed its commitment to the peace process in Mozambique, in particular with regard to the disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration of Renamo armed men (DDR), with financing that could amount to 50 million Euros.
This was announced last Friday by Ambassador António Sanchez-Benedito Gaspar after a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, to whom he presented himself as the new EU representative.
“We will continue to support Mozambique at all levels of cooperation, including the peace process, where we are engaged in supporting DDR as part of the contact group, and we support the initiative officially launched by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, earlier this month,” Sanchez said, adding that the amount involved could be as much as 50 million Euros, depending on what the needs and projects may be.
