Mozambique: New horizons opened with reform deal on election crisis - opposition
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign and Security Policy Business, Federica Mogherini, currently on a visit to Mozambique, will discuss the current political situation in the country with Renamo (Mozambique National Resistance) and MDM (Democratic Movement of Mozambique) today.
Speaking after a meeting with Mozambican Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Oldemiro Baloi, Mogherini said that the European Union would continue to maintain a robust economic relationship with Mozambique, investing in various business sectors.
“We want to continue to work in the economic investment, trade, agriculture, environment and other economic sectors,” Mogherini said, noting that Mozambique is a world example when it comes to national reconciliation and achieving peace, hence the need to achieve consensus between the parties.
Mogherini, who will also visit South Africa, said that the EU will continue to help address the drought and floods affecting the country.
“The EU will continue to help the people of Mozambique in this complex and risky time, when drought and floods are affecting the population, as well as crops and livestock,” she said.
Minister Baloi said that the meeting had discussed political, economic and social issues, and that the EU has expressed its intention to continue to support the state budget, as well as investing more in the economy.
Baloi added that, in partnership with the EU; Mozambique would strengthen the energy, foodstuff and agriculture sectors, recently shaken by the drought in the south of the country and floods in the centre and north.
