President of Mozambique Filipe Nyusi yesterday called the €20 million funding approved by the European Union for Rwanda a “double gain” for Mozambique.
Filipe Nyusi was speaking yesterday in Harare, Zimbabwe, after the closing of the extraordinary SADC summit.
The EU support is intended to strengthen the military capabilities of the Rwandan troops operating alongside the Mozambican forces in the northern operational theatre.
Responding to a question as to why the EU funding was directed to Rwanda instead of being channelled directly to Mozambique, the head of state noted that Mozambique already benefits from direct EU support in several areas, including military training and other strategic initiatives, currently amounting to 800 million euros.
