The European Union and the Mozambican Government on Wednesday launched the VaMoz Digital! program, a US$10 million (€9.3 million) initiative aimed at training young people in skills, entrepreneurship and digital services.
The European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen, said in Maputo that VaMoz Digital!! would provide opportunities in digital skills and the use of these tools for business development for young people, especially girls and people with disabilities.
Under #GlobalGateway flagship Vamoz Digital, 🇪🇺 establishes two Tech Hubs in Mozambique to facilitate digital inclusion, job opportunities and entrepreneurship. It puts major focus on girls and people with disabilities.

“This project places great focus on reducing gender inequality, and is testimony to the EU’s support to partner countries in people-centred digitization, especially for young people,” she said.
The training will contribute to promoting safe digital inclusion and creating employment opportunities for young people, who make up more than 50% of the Mozambican population, she added.
The EU commissioner said that the initiative was further testimony to the EU’s commitment to digital transformation, as part of its external support policy.
Mozambique’s Minister of Transport and Communications of Mozambique, Mateus Magala, stated that VaMoz Digital!! was aligned with the Mozambique Digital Transformation Project being implemented by the government.
“The digital economy is a reality, and we need to have a legal framework capable of encouraging growth in this area, while guaranteeing the generation of income for the country’s development,” Magala said.
The minister advocated strengthening and improving the political and regulatory framework, improving the institutional capacity of government bodies responsible for digital transformation, and strengthening digital innovation ecosystems in priority sectors.
VaMoz Digital! is funded by the EU and will be implemented by the Government of Italy, through the Italian Development Cooperation Agency.
