Mozambique has established an execution unit to prepare policy reforms and other regulations for the implementation of its Energy Transition Strategy, aiming to meet the demands of the global clean energy agenda in combating climate change.
The strategy is built on four pillars: the development of modern energy systems based on renewable energies, green industrialization, universal access to energy, and green transportation. Achieving these goals will require approximately 80 billion USD.
This information was shared by the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, during the second edition of the Mozambique-United Kingdom Business and Investment Forum. In his address, Zacarias acknowledged the UK’s contribution to the BRILHO program and the enhancement of Mozambique’s capacity to generate electricity, both within and outside the national grid.
Additionally, Zacarias highlighted the development of projects for constructing 400-kiloVolt (kV) power transmission lines between Alto Mulócuè and Namialo, and 220 kV lines from Nampula to Namialo and from Namialo to Nacala. These projects are being developed by the British company Gridworks.
