Mozambique - Portugal Summit scheduled for 8, 9 December
The proposal to restructure the debt of the Mozambican Company Tuna (Ematum) is still not finalized, just a few days before the second repayment instalment falls due.
The Mozambican Minister of Economy and Finance, Adriano Maleaine, says that the debt will be paid, regardless of Ematum’s financial capacity.
“Our financial advisor, the National Investment Bank (BNI), is in the process of negotiations. As soon as we have concrete information, I will naturally let you know,” Maleiane promised.
The minister says that everything is being done to restructure the Ematum debt according to the company’s ability to pay.
“We are working at full speed to find a solution by March,” Maleiane said. “Debt renegotiation is the right way forward, and the second instalment will be paid on time.”
