Radio France Internationale Revelation Award 2015 winner Cape Verde singer Elida Almeida is performing in Mozambique for the first time tonight.
The concert will take place at the Franco Mozambican Cultural Centre (CCFM) starting at 8.30pm. Almeida will be accompanied by Mozambican musicians Tony Paco (drums), Helder Gonzaga (bass), Vernon Mabas (guitar) and Figas (keyboard).
Elida Almeida is known in Mozambique for her songs “Nta Konsigui”, “Lebam Ku Bo” and “Joana” from her first CD, “Ôra Doci, Ora Margos”.
The artist was discovered by José da Silva, producer of other great African talents such as Cesaria Evora, Lura, Bonga, Tcheka and Boubacar Traore.
Only 22 years old, Almeida, a native of Santiago Island in Cape Verde, sings on her debut album the dreams of a Cape Verdean youth who wants to break out of isolation and take on the world.
Angolan musician Matias Damásio is also playing tonight at the Tete sports field from 22.00pm in a show that will feature Mozambicans Julia Duarte, Valdemiro Jose and Mr. Nhúnguè, among others.
The concert was postponed from last week because of bad weather, and expectation are running high among audiences due to the rarity of such events, particularly in Tete and Moatize.
