In a measure intended to prioritise technical and professional competence, Electricity of Mozambique (EDM) has appointed Carlos Yum, Maria de Fátima, Arthur Noel Govene and Aly Impija as heads of Operations, Planning and Business Development, Finances and Corporate Services respectively.
The four took office in a ceremony conducted by the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Leticia Klemens last week (28 October).
Minister Klemens noted that the new board begins its activities at a time when EDM faces major challenges, including achieving universal access to energy by 2030 in a context where “the current rate of access to energy in the country is only 26 percent, very low in view of the existing power generation potential”.
Challenges in the energy sector will require dedication and professionalism from the new administrators, the minister said.
“Today we see the new EDM administrators take office, from whom we expect commitment and dedication in the pursuit of government objectives in the energy sector. These include the generation of energy based on the various existing energy resources in the country,” Minister Klemens said.
The new directors say they are aware of the challenges and are prepared to meet targets.
In an unusual measure intended to prioritise technical and professional competence, Electricity of Mozambique (EDM) has looked abroad to fill vacant posts, launching its first international recruitment campaign last July.
Two of the four new administrators, Noel Govene and Aly Impija, were recruited from outside the country, while Carlos Yum and Maria de Fatima Artur are internal promotions.
