Eight people were killed and nine others injured in a road accident yesterday morning in Mieze, administrative post of Pemba in Cabo Delgado province.
The incident took place when one of the front tires of a mini-bus travelling from Pemba to Montepuez blew out, causing the vehicle to roll. According to police, five passengers were killed at the scene, while a further three died later in Pemba Provincial Hospital.
Excessive speed is also thought to be a contributory factor.
