More than 800 public works have been abandoned by contractors in Mozambique and several public managers will be made criminally and disciplinarily responsible for the situation, said Carmelita Namashulua, Minister of State Administration and the Civil Service.
Namashulua said, quoted by daily newspaper Notícias, that the state is being harmed by the abandonment of the works, as it paid all the fees charged by the contractors.
The shutdown of the works has deprived communities of essential public services, the minister added.
“Districts need these facilities to address the concerns of the population,” said the Minister.
Namashulua pointed out that the abandonment of works is related to the lack of capacity of the contractors and the violation of the principles that should guide the award by public managers.
Based on this, several state managers will be criminally and disciplinarily held accountable for the situation.
