Eight children and two women died on Wednesday (June 3) when the sailing vessel in which they were travelling sank off Pemba in Cabo Delgado province.
The small vessel carrying 43 passengers and three crew members had left Dambuzo Island, Mocímboa da Praia district, Cabo Delgado, bound for Nacala in Nampula province.
Maritime authorities in Pemba are investigating the accident, which claimed the lives of Mozambicans apparently trying to escape the effects of terrorist actions in the province.
