TotalEnergies CEO says Mozambique LNG project ‘ready’ to restart
Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) may again raise energy prices to offset the costs of producing and delivering electricity in the country.
EDM has already sent a request to the government and is awaiting authorization to raise the tariff by somewhere in the region of 1.32 meticais per kilowatt.
Releasing the information in Inhambane, EDM spokesperson Luís Amado said that the energy customers got costs EDM “a lot of money”, hence the need to increase the tariff.
“We expect it to be approved, and again next year as well, until we get to the point where what we buy is reflected in what we sell to the public. Then we will all be in a situation to grow and expand sustainably,” Amado said.
Amado acknowledges the implications a tariff increase will have on citizens’ pockets, but says there is no other way out, because the company is in a financial crisis.
