Mozambique’s public power utility Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) is mobilising resources to repair electrical systems damaged by terrorists in some districts of Cabo Delgado province.
Several teams of company technicians are already on the ground carrying out work to assure minimum supply to customers.
The matter was discussed by Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Max Tonela, on the sidelines of the 56th edition of the Maputo International Fair (FACIM), taking place in Marracuene district, Maputo province.
“We already have teams on the ground carrying out various jobs while we mobilise resources to ensure the replacement of the electrical system,” Minister Tonela told ‘Notícias’.
According to the minister, a complete survey has not yet been carried out, rendering it premature to advance any estimate of the total budget required for the work.
“For example, there is an immediate need to replace more than two kilometres of high voltage line crossing the Messalo river, as well as rebuilding the substation and find temporary solutions while we focus on other actions,” he explained.

Other works to be carried out, he added, include the Awasse-Mueda, Awasse-Mocímboa da Praia, Mocímboa da Praia-Palma and Palma-Muidumbe connections, and also restoring grids in villages where infrastructure was destroyed or vandalised.
