EDM (Eletricidade de Moçambique), a member of ALER (the Lusophone Renewable Energy Association), has launched a tender for feasibility studies (technical, financial, economic, environmental and social impact assessment, including the financial model and grid integration study) for a floating solar power plant in Chicamba dam, Manica province, Mozambique.
EDM intends to apply part of the amount [of the tender] to payments under consultancy contracts.
The services included in this project, which has the support of the African Development Bank (AfDB), provide for a complete feasibility study of a floating photovoltaic power plant in the Chicamba dam reservoir.
The feasibility study will encompass technical and financial feasibility, environmental impact assessment of power plant infrastructure and interconnection lines, as well as the environmental impact of dams and the marine ecosystem and the socio-economic aspects of the proposed floating solar project, in order to guide EDM and other local stakeholders in their decision-making process.
More information can be had on the project’s web page, HERE.
The overall objective of the presentation of the floating solar power plant option results from the need for additional energy generation and the utilization of existing open water surfaces for energy production, thereby saving arable land for agricultural purposes.
The platform will also contribute to better hydrological regulation.
The awarding will be supported by a preliminary environmental and social impact assessment, including the impact on local flora and fauna (water and land), bird life, local communities, local fisheries, and safety and security aspects.
