The Mozambican economy’s Economic Climate Indicator (ICE) showed a “tenuous” increase in January, according to the latest Mozambican National Statistics Institute (INE) bulletin.
The index rose to a value of 99.7, compared with a figure of 99.4 in December.
“The situation of the Mozambican economy, expressed in the opinions of economic agents and translated by the economic climate indicator (ICE), has consolidated the upward trend, in a tenuous way, for the fourth consecutive month,” the document notes.
The small variation, which the INE classifies as “almost a stabilization”, was the result of “the increase in employment and demand indicators” in the period in question.
The Confidence and Economic Climate indicators are a monthly publication on the economic situation in Mozambique, compiled on the basis of a monthly business survey of non-financial sector companies conducted by the INE.
“The study expresses the opinion of economic agents about the evolution and perspective of their activity, particularly on employment, demand, orders, prices, production, sales and activity limitations,” the INE explains.
