Donald Trump has hit back over Meryl Streep’s criticism of him as she received a lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes.
Mr Trump tweeted: “Meryl Streep, one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood, doesn’t know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes.
“She is a Hillary flunky who lost big.”
Streep had referred to Mr Trump during her Globes acceptance speech without naming him.
“It kind of broke my heart,” the three-time Oscar-winning actress told the Golden Globes audience in Beverly Hills on Sunday.
“This instinct to humiliate, when it’s modelled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life. Because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing.”
Streep said she had been stunned by the president-elect mocking a disabled reporter during a campaign appearance.
Mr Trump tweeted: “For the 100th time, I never ‘mocked’ a disabled reporter (would never do that) but simply showed him ‘groveling’ when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!”
Mr Trump, who is due to be inaugurated in less than two weeks, performed an impression of Serge Kovaleski, who has a congenital joint condition, at a rally in South Carolina during the presidential campaign trail in November last year.
