The Mozambican Association Women, Law and Development (MULEID), says that cases of gender-based violence involving physical assault and expulsion from homes are increasing alarmingly.
Statistics are unreliable, but MULEID says that the number of cases of violence has been on the increase recently, with spokesman Maria Luisa quoted by VOA as saying this is worrying because it indicates a further worsening of the situation of already disadvantaged women.
But the association does what it can. According to Luisa, “Some women benefit from maintenance payments [through our efforts], and MULEID also mediates consensual solutions to cases relating to estates”.
