Mozambique Airlines (LAM) is struggling to make the prepayments required by its new fuel supplier, causing continuing delays on some flights, a company source told Lusa on Wednesday.
“There are no cancellations of flights, but there are delays of one or two hours resulting from delayed supplies,” the source carrier’s communications office explained. This affected only three or four of the 30 daily 30 flights.
The situation affects supplies in Maputo and at airports in the provincial capitals of Nampula, Pemba and Tete. In addition to domestic flights, connections to Johannesburg in South Africa are at risk.
Problems have been experienced since last week, with LAM saying they arose from BP ceasing to supply fuel. The public aviation company then resorted to the Puma oil company, but the supplier requires prepayment, which, given the daily volume of fuel, causes difficulties.
