Mussa Patel was shot dead in front of his residence in Beira’s Ponta Gea neighbourhood last night.
Witnesses report that Patel was parking his car in front of his house at around 9:00 pm when he was approached by two armed individuals on a motorcycle who shot him in the neck, lungs and knees.
The victim’s brother, Adil Patel, says that Mussa had been receiving telephone threats recently. “He was receiving anonymous calls, but couldn’t identify the person threatening him. Lately he had begun limiting his movements,” he explained.
Police say they have opened a docket and are already hunting the criminals. “Teams were dispatched immediately to the site. Some clues were collected, and colleagues continue to collect relevant information in order to solve the case.
“Clarification will entail finding the perpetrators of this crime and taking them to court where they will be tried and held accountable for their crimes,” PRM spokesman Daniel Macuácua said.
The city of Beira has seen in a number of such crimes lately.
