The Desportivo de Maputo’s swimming pool is being renovated. The work, under way for two weeks now, will reduce the length to 25 metres and depth to two metres.
“The current dimensions – 33 metres long and 7.5 metres deep – in addition to being beyond the standards required by the International Swimming Federation, made maintenance costs very high,” a source at the club said.
The new pool will have 10 lanes, and showers and seating will be installed.
The pool, located in the heart of Maputo and once the scene of national and international tournaments, has been closed for about five years.
