Retired Anglican Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu turns 89 this Wednesday.
His birthday coincides with the 10th Desmond Tutu International Peace Lecture in which various climate activists will participate in the online lecture on Wednesday evening.
South African environmental activist Ayakha Melithafa, Ugandan climate activist Vanessa Nakate and Christiana Figueres, a diplomat from Costa Rica, will deliver the lecture.
Various global and South African leaders of society are expected to send recorded birthday messages for the Nobel peace laureate.
Anglican Archbishop of Southern Africa Thabo Makgoba says, “I just want to say to Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu a happy blessed birthday to you. We love you. We pray for you. We hope that the Good Lord will continue to bless you with good health and for you to be around with us for a very long time. On behalf of my family, on behalf of the clergy, their spouses, your friends in the diocese of Cape Town and in Southern Africa and the world over, I want to say ‘O gole-gole” (May you grow) Happy Birthday Tata, God Bless.”
