A three metre-long whale was found dead at the Mudua fishing centre in Chinde district, Zambezia, last Tuesday.
National Institute of Fisheries Research Zambézia delegate Daniel said the causes of the animal’s death is not at this time known.
The source suspects that the whale died last Saturday and was washed ashore the Mudua Fishing Centre in Chinde, but said that technicians from the National Fisheries Research Institute had been sent to collect more information.
“It may have been due to a crash. When large whales crash into ships, they can damage their bodies, and this can lead to beaching, ” he said.
The whale is already decomposing, and Mualeque cautioned people in Chinde not to think about eating the mammal’s flesh.
This is the second time that a whale is found dead in the coastal zone of Zambézia. The first time was last October, on Cabure beach in Maganja da Costa.
