Mozambique: Chapas' stoppage brings back bad memories for commuters

President Filipe Nyusi has called for all stakeholders to join forces with the government, INAM and INGC in disseminating information on preventive measures in the face of tropical depression Kenneth in the north of the country, a Radio Mozambique report reads.
Filipe Nyusi made his appeal in Beijing, China, on Thursday, in a [televised] statement to the Mozambican nation.
“Once again, we address all compatriots, appealing for calm and not panic in the face of the recurring rains and the winds. The dimension [of the disater] is under control,” the president said.
The head of state said it was vital that people followed official instructions closely and took the opportunity to display solidarity and unity in their actions.
The president said that over the next few days, the authorities would continue to update him on the evolution of the natural disaster affecting Mozambique, and gave his assurance that the government, in the person of Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, would go to the affected areas to assess the situation with a view to formulating plans for assistance.
