Four months after the cessation of train circulation as a result of the destruction of the Cuamba-Lichinga railway line in Niassa, locomotives will start traversing the section again from next Tuesday.
The Cuamba-Lichinga railway line was damaged by Tropical Cyclone Freddy in March this year, and rehabilitation has now been completed.
The work consisted of replacing a 200-metre embankment on the bridge over the Lugenda River, installing ballast, resetting the displaced line and sleepers and placing retaining stones.
The analyst and specialist for Institutional Relations in the North Development Corridor – CDN, Tomas Macubela, said that minor adjustments are currently being made.
Macubele added that the company was currently carrying out a survey of the losses and expenses incurred during the four months of stoppage of train circulation, due to cyclone Freddy, on the Cuamba-Lichinga route and for 15 days on the Cuamba-Entre-Lagos section.
