Speaking in Maputo on Thursday, Crown Prince Haakon of Norway expressed interest in supporting efforts towards reconciliation and definitive peace in Mozambique, and praised efforts towards maintaining peace made by President Nyusi and the Renamo leadership over the last two years.
Speaking at a seminar on peace and security, which took place under the motto “Participation of Women in the Construction and Consolidation of Peace and in the Recovery in Mozambique”, Prince Haakon acknowledged that maintaining peace was a complex task and recommended further dialogue in effecting national reconciliation.
The prince suggested, for example, that Norway could play a strategic role in implementing the United Nations Security Council resolution on Women, Peace and Security.
UN Women representative Marie Kayisara said that women could make valuable contributions to peace and security.
During the seminar, the four winners of a photographic contest on the subject of women and peace were given awards.
