Two children have been killed in crocodile attacks in Maputo province in the past two weeks. A third victim, attacked on Sunday (January 26), survived with serious injuries.
The lack of piped water and a bridge force citizens to enter the rivers flanking the district of Sábie in Maputo province.
“In January, we had three crocodile attacks, two of which resulted in deaths. In the first attack, an 11-year-old child was killed, and we were only able to recover half his body. A three-year-old child was then attacked while his mother was washing clothes,” head of the Administrative Post at Sábie Helena Chirute said.
According to Chirute, the third victim, a man, was wading across the river on foot when a crocodile attacked him from behind, lacerating his back.
