A statement from the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA) tells of many companies in Mozambique closing their doors as a result of the economic crisis affecting the country, with business areas where dozens of companies have closed within just a month.
“We are doing a survey of how many businesses exactly, but there is a very large average of companies closing down monthly, even weekly. There are areas where the average is as high as ten companies per month closing,” says Luis Sitoe, executive director of the CTA.
Gas and coal projects are the worst affected by the economic crisis, Sitoe told a press conference in Maputo called to announce the opening on the 28th of this month of the 14th annual private sector conference on the economic situation in the country.
