Residents of Beira’s Macurrungo area have alleged that criminals in police uniform have been terrorizing them at night, urging the command to reinforce police presence to deal with the crime this festive period.
The residents said this when they interacted with provincial commander of the PRM in Sofala, Alfredo Mussa, under the community police liaison programme.
In addition to the alleged existence of men with machetes dressed as policemen, the escape of dangerous inmates from prison also worries the residents.
In response to the concerns raised, Mussa encouraged residents to report any anomalies.
Mussa assured that the police were prepared to guarantee public order and peace during the festive season.
