An agent of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Maputo lost his life after being hit by two shots in a shoot-out at a filling station. Another officer suffered injuries to the leg and hand.
The police officers were repeatedly fired upon by individuals in a vehicle parked at these fuel pumps in the city of Maputo.
The two PRM agents, on routine patrol, supposedly became suspicious and approached a black car with four occupants.
Two shots were enough to end the life of one agent, who fell to the ground with his AKM resting on his neck. The dead agent’s colleague was shot in the leg and hand, and afterwards rushed to hospital.
The security guard at the gas station narrowly escaped injury and, visibly shaken, recounted the ‘miracle’ of escaping two shots.
Police in Maputo claim to have a lead on the killers and hope to arrest them soon.
In February of this year, also in Maputo, another PRM agent was shot by unknown individuals during a routine traffic inspection. The crime so far remains unsolved.
