Mozambique took over the chair of the Defence body of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP) from Angola yesterday, on the first day of the 18th Meeting of the General Heads of Staff of the Armed Forces of the CPLP.
Mozambique takes the lead at a time when it faces internal political tension sliding ever deeper into military conflict and loss of life, a report in O País newspaper says.
The meeting was headed by the Deputy Minister of Defence José Patrício, who stressed the need for CPLP member states to act jointly to combat threats to stability.
