Lúrio University (UniLúrio) in Nampula has temporarily suspended face-to-face classes on its Marrere campus so as to clean and disinfect its entire premises after three positive cases of Covid -19 were detected at the Faculty of Health Sciences.
UniLúrio dean, Leda Hugo, announced the decision. “Fortunately, no students have tested positive for Covid-19. The three cases are all teachers or staff,” she said, adding that all cases were asymptomatic and the patients’ health was improving.
At this moment, a hybrid distance learning model is being used, so as not paralyse classes all together.
“We were recommended to stop for a period of about 10 days. In the meantime, tracing will be done and disinfection carried out at the Faculty of Health Sciences, supported by a team from the health department that is working with us,” Hugo said.
Contract tracing will extend to employees’ relatives, taking into account the contacts reported. “What we can share with society is that all of our colleagues who tested positive are isolated, as also are their closest family members,” Hugo added.
The dean of Lúrio University gave assurances that her institution was following all measures in the coronavirus pandemic prevention protocol, only after which would the resumption of face-to-face classes be announced.
