Mozambique continues with a cumulative of 39 confirmed cases of people infected with the new Coronavirus, of which eight are recoveries, according to information presented this Tuesday, April 21, by the national director of Public Health, Rosa Marlene.
Speaking at the usual press briefing, Marlene told journalists that the country has tested, through the National Institute of Health (INS), a total of 1,163 suspected cases, of which 53 in the last 24 hours. All of the 53 were negative for COVID-19.
The Public Health official also added that Mozambique currently has a cumulative total of 11,829 people in quarantine, with 1,195 people being followed up.
On the occasion, Rosa Marlene, reminded all those who have risk factors for infection with the new coronavirus to given greater attention with regard to preventive measures, in order to avoid the development of complications of the disease. This applies namely to persons over 60 years of age, people suffering from obesity, hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancers (such as of the cervix and breast) or chronic lung diseases (such as asthma),
Meanwhile, the deputy director general of the INS, Eduardo Samo Gudo, recommended the practice of physical exercise to improve the immune system, as this is the only way the body has to eliminate the virus. However, he pointed out, exercising must be done observing all the measures established for the prevention of the disease, namely the use of the mask, social distancing, among others.
Samo Gudo also said that Mozambique has a strategy to extend the testing capacity at the country level, in order to reach the capacity of 6,000 tests per day. However, this depends on the availability of reagents, which are scarce in the country.
